Baxter

Located in west central Crow Wing County, Baxter is a rapidly growing community and currently one of Minnesota’s fastest growing areas. The city is adjacent to the City of Brainerd, approximately 60 miles north of St. Cloud, in the heart of the beautiful central lakes area of our state. Baxter was named after Luther Baxter, an attorney for the railroad who served in the MN Legislature and as a colonel in the Civil War.The city became incorporated on May 25, 1939. Its existence is partly owed to a large tie-treating plant, owned by the Northern Pacific Railroad (since closed), and the farming industry. Today tourism and various service industries are the biggest employers in the area. Surrounded by several lakes, ponds, and good people, we are proud to call this city home.
